1) From where are the hair taken?

It is taken from back of scalp from occipital zone which is a relatively permanent hair zone from the persons own scalp.See the HAIR TRANSPLANT BASICS section

3) What is a graft?

Naturally in human body , hair are present in bunches called as grafts. Each graft can have 2 to 6 hair follicles mostly.

4) How many grafts will be required for me?

It depends upon the area to be covered. Mostly to cover half scalp(4 to 5 finger area) roughly 2500 to 3500 grafts are required and for full scalp coverage 4500 to 7000 grafts.

5) Is it painfull?

NO. It is done under local anaesthesia after which patient doesn’t feel any pain sensation during the procedure.

6) How much time does it take for the procedure?

Normally with standard FUE procedure it will take 6 to 8 hrs for 3000 grafts while with FUESI(Simlutaneous extraction and implantation ) it takes 5 to 6 hrs.

7) Does it leave behind any scars ?

For graft extraction very fine0.8 to 0.9mm punches are used which don't leave behind any scar.

8) Do the hair regrow which have been taken from the backside?

No. But the hair are taken strategically to pick every 3rd graft thereby leaving 2 adjacent grafts thereby maintaining the density in the donor area.

9) Are there any precautions to be kept before procedure?

Smoking should be stopped. Hair should not be shaved just before the procedure.

10) What are the precautions to be kept after the procedure?

1) Antiobiotics need to be taken for a week
2)Saline sprays to keep the transplanted area wet for 3 to 4days Normal work can be resumed after 3 days.

11) Any effect on brain?

No. Its a myth, the procedure is done very superficially and doesn't cause any problems.

12) Is the surgery done by technicians or trained doctor?

At our centre we ensure that most important steps like extraction of grafts and slit making are done by the doctor only and technicians are invloved in implanting the grafts. Although a good team work is required to make a hair transplant successful.

13) Will my hairline look natural?

Yes. That is the expertise of the surgeon to create an artistic and natural looking hairline.

14) What if my hair transplant fails or growth is sub-optimal?

Like any medical procedure chances of failing are there, but minimal with our team of trained doctors. The doctors at AVISTA CLINIC ensure that if the growth is suboptimal or after adequate duration, then reconstruction is done.

15) How much time does it take for full growth?

Normally it takes 8 months for full growth, but in some patients with thin hair it can extend upto 10 to 12months.

16) Is routine follow up compulsory after hair transplant?

No. Many international patients do the transplant and fly back with keeping in touch photographically at 3,6 and 8 months on emails or whatsapp.

17) Is PRP recommended after hair transplant?

Its the call of the surgeon either to add or not. It does not make significant difference in hair growth.

18) What is the success rate of hair transplant at your clinic?

In most patients the hair growth is significantly good. In a medical procedure things can sometimes turn out not the way the surgeon expects, and if the growth is suboptimal the surgeon ensures that the reconstruction is done and the patent is satisfied.

19) Can I shampoo/oil/cut/trimming/shaving/dye/massage my hair normally after hair trans-plant?

Yes. Only few weeks i.e 3 to 4 wks dying and close shaving is avoided,after which every-thing can be resumed as before.

20) Is there shock loss after the surgery for transplanted hair?

Yes. In most patents the hair fallcan be upto50 to 100% till the period of 3 months. The roots stay there and regrow again.Growth phase starts from 4 month onwards till 8-9 months.

21) What is the right age for getting transplant done?

The time when you start feeling uncomfortable about your looks,there is no age bar and pa-tient can do it as early as 18 years if it is required . Patients with thinning of hair should take an appropriate course of medical treatment first before undergoing surgical options.
